Term 3 Week 6 2024
Giinagay Families,
It has been so wonderful to return to St Mary's after my family holiday earlier this term. It has been great to see so many of our students engaged in their learning, and making such great progress. A very big thank you to Miss Amy for all her hard work in leading the school in my absence. I know that all of our teachers work really hard to support one another when we need to, and I am very grateful.
Baptism
A number of families have asked me about getting your children Baptised. If you are interested, or would like to know more please book in a time to see me and we can begin filling out the forms for your child or children.
Changes to Staffing
This term, Miss Rachel McGregor-Allen informed me of her intention to finish up at St Mary's. I wish to thank Miss Rachel for all of the hard work and dedication she has put into our children and our school community for the last 18 months. Miss Rachel's last day will be this Friday, the 30th of August.
We are really excited to welcome Miss Madelyn Spencer to our St Mary's family. Miss Madelyn is joining us from Sydney and is very excited to be teaching the Year 4 class. I know all of our students and families will make Miss Madelyn feel very welcomed in our school.
Catholic Education Leaders Gathering
This week, I have spent 3 days in Coffs Harbour at the Catholic Education Leaders Gathering. I wish to thank Uncle Mark Smith, Shyliqua Chapman, and Archie Duncan for a beautiful Welcome & Acknowledgement of Country. I couldn't have been a prouder Principal! There are many changes at a Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Ltd level. One of these changes are our school fees, which will go up for the 2025 school year $1 a week per child. If you are under financial hardship at any time, please do not hesitate to come and see me to make a fee payment plan. My door is always open and the process is completely confidential.
I look forward to another wonderful term at St Mary's with all of our amazing students and families.
Nadine

What an exciting week we had at St Mary's for Bookweek! There were so many activities happening. A big thank you to Miss Jody for organising the week and to Miss Brooke who helped.
Miss Jody had a bookweek store set up in the library that was open every afternoon for students and parents to buy books.
Students were also treated to readings from the local Police and Fire Brigade
We also had our community breakfast and book week parade
In K/1 this morning the class split into 2 groups, Kindergarten and year 1.
Kindergarten were with Miss Kathryn in the library practicing sounds and tricky words
Year 1 were counting and sounding out words with Miss Eden
Miss Tanya's class have been learning fractions by making 'fish fractions'.
As part of Book Week we had 2 Students, Aliyana and Bradley read a book on radio! 2NVR welcomed our students to read their books. They did such an amazing job reading on radio!
In Year 4 Miss Rachel was reading a story to students who were picking words out of the story and writing them on their white board and sharing with the group on which words they had picked from the story.
They also had worksheets to complete where they were filling in the missing word
In Science students have been looking at the changing states of matter, and have done hands on experiments. They made oobleck and leant about the properties of soild and liquid states.
Students have also been combing and separating materials looking at water soluble materials and metal being magnetic and how to separate it.
Thankyou to our Dad's, Pop's, Uncle's and special men in our student's lives for sharing breakfast with us.
